Maggie Woodward, a British expat living in Competa for ten years, is approaching her 6th charity challenge in aid of CUDECA. Starting on Saturday, 14th April in Almería she will walk the Camino Mozárabe to Santiago de Compostela, some 1,500 km over 56 days. Maggie is in her sixties and first walked the most popular camino route (Camino Frances) in 2013 with her daughter. Since then she has walked a camino every year, and has clocked up over 5,000 km through Spain and Portugal and raised over 5,000 euros for Cudeca. WHAT INSPIRES MAGGIE TO KEEP WALKING? Many people who walk the Camino de Santiago become addicted to the freedom and solitude of the way, but also the camaraderie that can develop amongst the people you meet from many countries around the world, people you’re not likely to come across in normal life, some of whom will remain friends for many years to come. Maggie´s spring walk through Spain and Portugal from Almería to Santiago de Compostela passes through stunning countryside, along tracks bordered by glorious wild flowers, and through cities such as Granada, Córdoba, Trujillo and Salamanca in Spain, Amarante, Guimaráes, Braga and Viana de Castelo in Portugal, whilst raising sponsorship funds for Cudeca Foundation. Her journey can be followed by visiting her blog at and also via the CUDECA´s website and social media communications. For more information contact Esther Ráez (697 146 987 – or Maggie Woodward (
